History
The Ohio Athletic Committee (OAC) is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization that was established in 1999. The OAC was formed to promote youth athletics by creating and providing state level events. These events aim to provide valuable transferable experiences for student-athletes. Since its inception, the OAC has awarded more than $100,000 in college scholarships and grants to Ohio students and athletic programs. Jude Roth – Co-Founder & Operations Manager
Jude is the Co-Founder of the Ohio Athletic Committee (OAC). Jude started wrestling as a sophomore in High School and two short years later he was crowned State Champion. He is a graduate of Sandusky St. Mary’s and Terra Technical College.
After winning the state championships, he returned to his alma mater to coach. Through 21 years of coaching, Roth’s teams captured 7 State Titles, 7 State Dual Titles, and 426 dual meet wins, which was the most wins in Ohio History when he retired. He coached 77 State placers and 24 State Champions. He was 2002 National Federation Coach of the Year (among all sports) and 2007 Ohio High School Wrestling Coaches Sportsmanship Award recipient. In 2012 he was inducted into the Ohio Wrestling Hall of Fame.
While coaching, he saw a missing platform for Ohio Middle School wrestlers. He and other coaches formed the Ohio Junior High School State Championships. Jude’s passion for wrestling has transformed Ohio’s youth wrestling that is respected across the country. It has also provided statewide events in the sports of Football, Cheerleading & Cross Country. Jude resides in Sandusky with his wife who has a career in education. They have two children and one grandchild.
Jared Opfer- Executive Director
Jared joined the Ohio Athletic Committee (OAC) in 2009. Since an early age, Jared had a passion for sports. In high school, he competed in wrestling and football and was Ohio’s 9th 4-time State Champion. Jared finished his high school career with 211 wins, 139 pins and several state & national records. He went on to wrestle at Kent State where he was a 2-time NCAA Div. I National Qualifier and MAC Champion. He also earned 3-time Academic All-Conference Honors on his way to earning his Masters in Business Administration. Jared also has a Certification in Nonprofit Executive Leadership through Indiana University. Jared gives back to his alma mater and the sport of wrestling by coaching at the high school level. Jared resides in Sandusky with his wife who has a career in Human Resources. They have four children.
